Back Online

It’s been nearly 10 months since my last post, and a lot has changed since then!

The main reason I stopped posting was honestly pretty simple: I was going through a series of job transitions, and it didn’t feel like the right time to be publicly building things online while everything was still in flux. I wanted to wait until life stabilized a bit before committing to this again.

Last summer I finished my postdoc at Mayo Clinic, then briefly joined Nuclearn, an AI startup focused on nuclear power. In a lot of ways it was a dream job for me: physics, engineering, machine learning, and real-world infrastructure all combined into one. Ultimately though, I decided I wanted a fully remote lifestyle, so I left on good terms. Around the same time we also shut down Saguaro Solutions.

After that I joined Aflac, and honestly I’ve been very happy here! The team is awesome, the work is interesting, and the work-life balance has been incredible. Since I work east coast hours while living in Arizona, I’m usually done with work around 2pm, which has given me something I haven’t had in a long time: consistent time and energy for side projects.

Originally I started this website as a way to document my entrepreneurship journey and help build credibility while job searching. Surprisingly, it actually worked. What I didn’t expect was learning just how far a relatively small amount of consistent effort can go online. Even while posting inconsistently, this site opened doors, created opportunities, and connected me with interesting people. I’ve wanted to invest more into it for a long time, but the timing was never quite right.

Now it is.

Going forward, I’m planning to post much more regularly and turn this website into a long-term platform for experimenting with ideas, building products, and documenting the process along the way. The overall theme will continue to revolve around physics, innovation, AI, and entrepreneurship. At its core, this website is about applying first-principles thinking to build products and explore new ideas.

I’m also changing the way I approach projects. In the past I tended to focus on a few large, long-term ideas. Going forward, I want to experiment with a much higher throughput of smaller projects: rapid iteration, low startup costs, and real products that can quickly be tested in the real world. More shots on goal means more chances to succeed, more opportunities to learn, and more flexibility to double down on ideas that actually gain traction. I also think this approach better matches my personality. I like exploring new ideas, building things quickly, and working across different domains, and honestly I think it will be a lot more fun – both for me and for people following along!

I also have a pretty large backlog of content ready to go, along with several projects that have been sitting on the backburner for way too long: kitchen gadgets, music visualization tools, a language learning app, a board game, and a few other strange ideas that may or may not work. Either way, I think they’ll make for interesting blog posts.

Anyway, I’m excited to finally get this rolling again.

If any of that sounds interesting, feel free to subscribe to the newsletter and follow along. There’s a lot more coming soon!
